STAGED: Savoy Ballroom 1, Slug's Saloon, Three Deuces

In 2015 Jason Moran, the internationally-renowned pianist, composer and performance artist, was invited by the Venice Biennale to exhibit “STAGED,” a series of sculptural, set installations. Paying homage to iconic jazz venues of New York’s past, and reimagining the architecture of these cultural landmarks, the projects doubled as concert stages for ongoing performances. ASI produced the three architectural pieces, “Savoy Ballroom 1”, “Slug’s Saloon,” and “Three Deuces.” Adding to our challenge, these sculptural installations required the ability to be easily assembled and disassembled, as they would eventually be exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Walker Art Center, the Wexner Center for the Arts, and Luhring Augustine.
